Why at ALGRÀ we choose 340-gram bags: a decision designed to better preserve the aroma and flavor of coffee in every cup.
A bigger bag seems more practical. Until you open it.
From that moment on, coffee becomes more exposed to oxygen and other environmental factors that, over time, change its aroma and flavor. Roasted coffee doesn't stay exactly the same after the package is opened: it loses aromatic compounds and undergoes oxidation processes linked to aging.
That's why at ALGRÀ we choose 340 gram bags.
Only open the coffee you're about to drink
When you buy a larger quantity, we could ship it in a single package. It would be simpler.
We prefer to split it up.
That way, while you use one bag, the others stay sealed until their turn comes. It doesn't mean a sealed package fully stops coffee's evolution (material, time, temperature and storage conditions also play a role) but limiting its exposure to oxygen helps preserve its characteristics better.
The 340 grams reflect that way of understanding coffee: enough to enjoy it over several days without having to keep an oversized bag open.
We're not trying to make it last longer
We want it to keep tasting the way you expect, for as long as it lasts.
Because behind the size of a bag there can also be a decision about how we want coffee to reach every cup.
The last cup should taste like the first.
